    FAQ

What is a private ice climbing tour?
On a private ice climbing tour, you will have our full attention, so you can set the pace, technical difficulty for your climbs, choose where to stop for photos, and ask questions along the way without waiting for other groups.
    Where does the tour start?
The tour typically starts at the Solheimajökull parking area, a short walk from the glacier snout. Your exact meeting point (and any optional pickup options) will be confirmed in your booking confirmation email.
    How long is the tour?
The private ice climbing usually lasts about 5 hours, including time to gear up, safety briefing, walking up to the glacier, the hike/climbing itself, and returning to the meeting point.
Do I need prior experience or very good fitness?
No glacier‑hiking/climbing experience is needed. But you should be in good physical fitness, able to hike/climb for several hours.
    What equipment is included?
Ice climbing gear is included: crampons, helmet, harness, climbing ice axe, ropes, plus a safety briefing on how to use them. We will make sure that everything fits and is secure before you start.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear waterproof mountaineering boots (B2 category), warm layers, a windproof jacket, gloves, and sunglasses or goggles. Bring water or tea, snacks, and a camera or phone. Avoid cotton‑heavy clothing.
    Is there an age limit?
A minimum age of 16+ years is required. For age below 18 years, parent presence or parent consent is mandatory.
Is the tour safe in bad weather?
Glacier tours are weather‑dependent. If conditions are unsafe (heavy rain, strong winds, or poor visibility), we may shorten, modify, or cancel the tour; in many cases, you’ll have the option to reschedule or receive a refund following our cancellation policy.
Can we add an ice‑cave visit or extra activities?
Ice caves are only accessible during winter months (approximately October–April), which falls outside the scope of this tour.
Are photos allowed on the glacier?
Yes, photos are encouraged. We’ll make short stops for photos, but you must stay within the safe area we indicate and follow all instructions to avoid crevasses and other hazards.
How do I book and pay for the private hike?
You can book directly through our website. Payment is usually made online in advance; a confirmation email with meeting‑point details and any last‑minute instructions will follow.
What happens if someone in the group cannot continue?
If someone feels unwell or cannot continue, we take the safest decision, which may include turning back early or adjusting the route. The priority is always safety.
Can we customize the departure time?
Since this is a private tour, we can offer flexible start times. If you need a specific time (for example, to match your self‑drive itinerary), please contact us in advance and we will see what we can do.
